Significance of Minor Characters

The use of dialogue keeps the character alive in a play. If the character is in the play, what other things can the character do than act and be apart of the play. The dialogue assists the character into what he or she should be doing. The place and timing on when and where the characters appear is very important. Not only does settings sets the place and time for the play, it also shows the characters background information on where they come from. Friedrich Durrenmatt uses both these literary techniques to help understand the characters.
The word ‘minor’ refers to something or it could also be someone that is not as important but when having to take the word ‘minor’ and put it in front of the word ‘character’ we would have minor characters. Thus, if labeling the characters minor and major would it have an affect on how we as reader see the characters and if the character is a minor character, would it make any difference if the character were taken out of the play? Usually when thinking about the significance of a character, the main character is more significant than any other characters. However, some minor characters could also hold a significant role. In many television series the killer or the guilty ones are always the ones who watches from the sidewalks or the ones that seems to be too innocent to do it, but don’t let their behavior fool you. In the play The Visit by Friedrich Durrenmatt, both Mathilde and the teacher play a significant role. And we will see how these characters can affect the major characters.

Mathilde is Schill’s wife. She does not do much, other than help Schill around the store. She also does not appear in the play many times, and she hardly speaks. Some readers will say that she is just one of the props in the…...

Home Visit

...On the 16th of June 2008 I undertook a home visit to see Mrs. Janet Smith, a 35 year old who lives with her husband and children in a suburban home in the outer east suburbs of Melbourne. Janet was recently involved in a car accident four days ago, on June 12th. She was admitted to hospital with multiple abrasions covering her hands, legs and face. One of the abrasions on her right leg has become infected and she has developed cellulitis to the left leg. Janet was moved to Hospital in Home Care two days after admission at her request as her husband is finding it difficult to cope with the children and the housework. On the 15th of June I engaged in a phone conversation with Janet who gave verbal permission for me to visit her on the 16th of June. During the phone conversation Janet seemed very stressed, she mentioned that her children are currently staying at her mothers house until she gets better. Janet was emotional about the recent events and begun to cry over the phone. I asked Janet about her pain, and she rated her pain score a ‘seven to nine out of ten.’ She explains that ‘the red area on my left leg feels very hot and is swollen and aching most of the time…the cuts often sting and it hurts when the dressing is change.’ I suggested and icepack to help with the swelling and pain. Currently for Janet’s pain she has been prescribed two paracetamol every four hours, which according to Janet ‘it doesn’t seem to help for very long.’ I asked if she had ever taken......

Some of the attractions and activities you ca participate in are; going to Times Square, Central Park, Ground Zero to pay your respects to the people who lost their lives on that tragic day, or perhaps take a romantic horse and buggy ride in Central Park. New York is a great place to visit in the winter, seeing the famous Christmas tree, going ice skating, or just taking a romantic horse and buggy ride in the snow. All of these things are awesome, don’t forget to visit the statue of liberty and the empire state building, those are my favorite. The only downside is that NYC can be very expensive, so make sure you bring a lot of money. I promise you will go home with great memories and want to visit again. I visited Negril, Jamaica in 2005. I went to a place called Couples Swept Away Resort (all inclusive). I recommend this place to anyone traveling to Jamaica. It was awesome. The staff was delightful and very......

...Xinghua Huang Adrian Gaskins BWS 151 Section A October 5, 2015 Visit museum I visited the art museum with my classmates and professor on Wednesday in order to understand better about the black world cultures. It was my first time to go there in campus. The moment I arrived there, I found that the building was special. When we walked into it, there was a big painting in front of us. And then there were several rooms to show different kinds objects. There was an area for collecting paintings. There was another area to store camera in the old times. In a word, all the things in it had a long history. After a short Introduction, we are separated to three groups. My group needed to analysis a big painting which had two cycles. The two cycles contained a sentence, that is, “Just as in the Anatomy of Man, Every Nation Must Have Its Hind Part”. There are few red stars and four different colors in the center. The background of the painting was black and it had a big title “Alabama”. I discussed with my groups. Then I thought that the stars in the center insinuated some places. The sentence in the cycles may stand for freedom spirt of black people. Finally, I learned many things from professions. I knew that most people watch each artwork in 7 seconds. We should watch it longer time and then think deeply. This is the most significant thing I learned in this amazon class....

Site Visit

...Site Visit Cognitive behavioral techniques are used during a counseling session in a hospital or office setting by therapist. Although I was unable to do a current Site visit to a human service department of a company to write my report, I do know from my own experience some things pertaining to programs that employ behavioral or genitive intervention and or models. In this paper I will attempt to explore some areas within a cognitive intervention such as: • What population participates in the program • Who presents the program • How the effectiveness of the intervention is measured • How do they determine a need for the program • Do they have plans for other programs that use behavioral models and techniques • What other models and theories are represented in their programs. This paper comes from my own observation; the person on the outside looking in. As we look into the population of participants, it ranges based on the type of behavior being addressed, intervention and motivation strategies. Last year, when I attended my counseling session, it was held in a group session with different people of all ages. This particular group session addressed issues of anxiety and depression. I quickly learned that many people have issues with anxiety and depression, yet they are hesitant to get counseling to change the behavior. Although some may want the help, they often have the fear of having to take medication to alter the behavior without realizing that......

Mosque Visit

...Dennis Do INTL 30 8/4/11 Visit to South Bay Islamic Association (Evergreen Location) I visited the Evergreen location of SBIA (South Bay Islamic Association) on a Friday for the Jummah prayers which starts at 1:20. This location is associated with the downtown location. It looks like a newer location and there are plans to expand to a larger mosque. I decided on this location because I was already around the area. According to their website they offer five daily prayers, Jummah prayers, and monthly community events. There are monthly events that anyone can attend including homeless feedings. When I first walked in, I didn’t know what to expect. The building is really new and was not completed yet. I removed my shoes like everyone else and a man at the front greeted me right away because he could tell I was a visitor and he described the prayer and activities that would happen that Friday. Robes and scarves are available for people that aren’t already dressed accordingly. I was told that my arms were required to be covered because I was wearing only a t-shirt. The man offered a robe to me, but I decided to retrieve a sweater from my car. When the prayer started around 1:30, I stayed in the back of the room and observed what was happening. There were Qur’ans placed everywhere and pillows on the ground. People paid little attention to me. People were chanting words I couldn’t understand. I noticed that everyone in the room was very spiritually uplifted.......
