Who holds Coinspinner knows good odds Whichever move he make But the Sword of Chance, to please the gods Slips from him like a snake. The Sword of Jus tice balances the pans Of right and wrong, and foul and fair. Eye for an eye, Doomgiver scans The fate of all folk everywhere. Dragonslicer, Dragonslicer, how d'you slay? Reaching for the heart in behind the scales. Dragonslicer, Dragonslicer, where do you stay? In the belly of the giant that m y blade impales. Farslayer howls across the world For thy heart, for thy heart, who hast wronged me! Vengeance is his who casts the blade Yet he will in the end no triumph see. Whose flesh the Sword of Mercy hurts has drawn no breath; Whose soul it heals has wandered in the night, Has paid the summing of all debts in death Has turned to see returning light. The Mindsword spun in the dawn's gray light And men and demons knelt down before. The Mindsword flashed in the midday bright Gods joined the dance, and the march to war. It spun in the twilight dim as well And gods and men marched off to hell. I shatter Swords and splinte r spears; None stands to Shieldbreaker. My point's the fount of orphans' tears My edge the widowmaker. The Sword of Stealth is given to One lonely and despised. Sightblinde r's gifts: his e yes are keen His nature is disguised. The Tyrant's Blade no blood hath spilled But doth the spirit carve Soulcutter hath no body killed But many left to starve. The Sword of Siege struck a hammer's blow With a crash, and a smash, and a tumbled wall. Stonecutter laid a castle low With a groan, and a roar, and a tower's fall. Long roads the Sword of Fury makes Hard walls it builds around the soft The fighter who Towns aver takes Can bid farewell to home and croft. Who holds Wayfinde r finds good roads Its master's step is brisk. The Sword of Wisdom lightens loads But adds unto their risk.…...

Butterfly Swords

...The butterfly sword (Traditional Chinese: húdié shuāng dāo) also known as dit bang dao (life-taking sword) or yee jee dao (character two sword), is originally from the South of China, though it has seen use in the North. The blade length is approximately that of the forearm, for easy concealment within the sleeves or inside boots, and for greater maneuverability to spin and rotate in close-quarters fighting. The butterfly sword is usually wielded in pairs. As well, they are usually held side by side within the same scabbard, so as to give the appearance of a single weapon. The sword has also a small crossguard to protect the hands of the wielder, which can be used to block or hook an opponent's weapon. The guard can also be used as a knuckle duster when non-lethal application of the weapon is desired. Traditionally, the blade of a butterfly sword is only sharpened halfway, from the middle of the blade to the tip. From the middle down to the handle, the blade is left blunt. This is done so that the unsharpened portion of the blade can be used for blocking without damaging a finely honed edge, and to deliver non-lethal strikes. Butterfly swords are used in several Chinese martial arts, notably WingTsun( known as Baat Cham Dao), Lau Gar and Hung Gar. In WingTsun, one notable aspect of butterfly sword combat is that its principles are the basis for all other weaponry. In theory, any object that can be held in the hands of a WingTsun practitioner will follow basically the same......

...smile. I've watched you sleeping for a while. I'd be the father of your child. I'd spend a lifetime with you. I know your fears and you know mine. We've had our doubts but now we're fine, And I love you, I swear that's true. I cannot live without you. Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend. You have been the one. You have been the one for me. And I still hold your hand in mine. In mine when I'm asleep. And I will bare my soul in time, when I'm kneeling at your feet. Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend. You have been the one. You have been the one for me. I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow. I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow. I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow. I'm so, I'm so, I’m so hollow STORY BEYOND THE SONG I read the song as the goodbye of a man to his girlfriend and to his best friend since he’s not alive anymore. My dialogue intends to be the conversation between the two guys that have just lost one of the most important people in their life. In a completely different context from the pact, Julie as Rameck will need to move on without her beloved....

Song

...The song Temporary Home was featured on Carrie Underwood’s hit album Play On that was released in October of 2009. This song had no impact on me at all until March of 2010. One of my dearest friends, Breanna Nicole Barber, was in a motorcycle dirt bike accident. She fell off of the bike hitting her head causing major brain damage. She was a vegetable and was taken off of life support. Her funeral was several days later and it was really the most unbelievable thing that has ever happened to me. They played Temporary Home at her funeral. I knew what a temporary home meant to me. It meant that one day I’d be at my final destination and that would be heaven. In these next few paragraphs I will reinforce the word ‘temporary’. I’ll describe to you my idea of why Carrie Underwood addresses 3 different stages of life. The word ‘temporary’ is specifically reinforced numerous times throughout the song. Carrie uses phrases like, “house that will never be a home”, “nowhere to go”, “passing through”, and “just a stop”. We have a clear understanding of most of these things and that they intend on being for a short period of time. [What about these words/phrases?] Carrie introduces three different stages of life throughout the song. First she mentions a little boy who is in foster care that keeps getting moved and placed in homes that feel unwelcoming to him. Then she mentions a single mom that needs help, has a baby, and practically has nothing. Lastly she mentions an......

Song of Songs

...Song of Songs Rabbi Aqiba once said that “For in all the world there is nothing to equal the day on which the Song of Songs was given to Israel, for all the writings are Holy, but the Song of Songs is the Holy of Holies.” (Davidson) This statement is made in regards to whether or not the book “Song of Songs” is to be included in the canon on the Bible. This book is a collection of songs and love poetry between two lovers. This book can be considered as an allegory of human sexuality, or divine love. However, there is no direct mention of the Divine Presence anywhere within the book. Even the Jewish Rabbis with the most understanding of biblical concepts regarding sexuality have trouble agreeing that a book of seemingly secular love poetry should be included in the sacred canon.(Davidson) When Aqiba said the Song of Songs was the Holy of Holies, he probably intended that to mean that the Song was detailed symbolism of the historical relationship between Yahweh (the Divine Presence) and the people of Israel from the Exodus to the coming of the Messiah.(Davidson) During the time, sexual feelings were considered pagan and evil. Some Christian allegorists believe that the author (or authors) of the songs wrote in a way that disguised sexual expressing as a yearning for God. Most scholars believe that the authors purposely wrote about yearning for God in an incredibly sexual way to further imply the strong emotions behind said yearning. These songs are regardless a type of......

The Cross and the Sword

...The Cross and the Sword in Spain’s New World: Bartolomé De Las Casas and Hernán Cortés 1). How would you compare Las Casa’s and Cortés’s attitude about Native Americans, their cultures, and their conversion to Christianity? What assumptions shaped their conclusions? Which sources are the most revealing of those attitudes and assumptions? Hernán Cortès felt that the Natives intelligence was far greater than those of the islands and that they provided sufficient intelligence to conduct themselves as reasonable beings. By proviong themselves intelligent, Cortès found it very important to compel them to serve the Spaniards in the same way the Natives in the Islands. Cortès believed that the conquerors and settlers would not be able to maintain themselves. He believed in increasing his Majesties revenues rather than diminish them after the long battles against the natives and the hardships and loss they may have been put to. Las Casas attitude was the opposite as he tried many things to end the Encomiendas system. In 1510, Las Casa had no disagreements with the mistreatment of the Indians until 1512, when he joined an expedition led by Diego Velásquez and witnessed the slaughter of the Indians. The turning point came when he was preparing a sermon after discussing with some Dominicans who shared the same concerns. As he read through the bible he stumbled across a passage that he couldn’t let go of and it read, “Tainted his gifts who offers in sacrifice ill-gotten goods.”......

The Song

...The song "where Is the Love?" written by will.i.am, Taboo, apl.de.ap, with help of others such as Ron Fair, and recorded by the American hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas. In this song, The Black Eyed Peas lament on various issues in the World, such as terrorism, racism, hypocrisy about the U.S. government, war, pollution, intolerance, and greed. I choose this song because as I was watching this music video, I thought that there are lots of worldwide issues that make our world disharmony and difficulty. I think the video describes nowadays world. Today the world is corrupted and vicious. There is at least a hundred murder cases in a day, happenings dealing with terrors and discrimination occur all around the world almost every second. It is easier to find hypocrisy and racism than peace and love. Furthermore, media and government highly influence people. For example, in the music video, children are playing violent games likely to act what they see in the media. Also, false information from media and government give negative images. I believe the mostly impacted for all corruptions of the world is our children, the next generation. In my opinion, people should be honest and try to make our world peaceful and lovable for our future generations. This is my interpretations of the first verse of lyrics. The question mark that appears in the intro of the song represents “Where is the love?” in the world. The first and second line of the first verse ‘What's wrong with......

...The song I choose to do was “ Runaway Love” by Ludacris ft. Mary J. Blige. The song focuses on three different scenarios dealing with young girls from the ages of 9-11. For the first scenario it focuses on a nine year old whose mother had many different men in her life. Throughout the men who go in and out of her mother life they are sexually abusing her. She tells her mother what is happening, but her mother does not believe her. The second scenario is about an eleven year old who is being beat by her alcoholic father and only had one friend who understands her. Walking home from school one day the friend is shot by a drive by bullet. Now she is left alone because that’s was the only person she had. On the last scenario an eleven year old is doing drugs and being sexually active with males that are older. She knows if her mom finds out she will go crazy. The sum of the three stories are these young girls are going through situation where they wish they could runaway and just forget everything that has happened. The race that the song is mainly directed towards all nationalities because these things can happen to anyone. Accent- slang speaking in a way that a more African American audience would understand Gender- targeted to mainly females Class- lower class which is the poor because all the situation the parents were struggling financially or had some type of situation...

...Limp Bizkit's jam! Limp Bizkit played their best hits as well as the songs from the early career. Rap-metal charge of Limp Bizkit reacted with the energy of the crowd, and detonated with the two-hour blast. The sound of band’s live performance was worth of praise. It was as close as possible to the studio recordings. The volume was arranged perfectly, therefore, it was easy to hear every beat from any corner of the auditorium. There was no headache and temporary deafness as sometimes happens after the performance of rock bands. Each member of the band was worth of compliments and endless praise. There was no doubt about the mastery of Limp Bizkit. This band has gone through thousands of shows during 20 years of their career and they know exactly how to interact with the audience. The energy was oozing through the artists allowing fans to get rid of all negativity and enjoy the good vibes the band was sending. The guitarist, Wes Borland, expressed himself through the air tearing guitar riffs and expressive gestures, giving the audience an example of how to behave on the Limp Bizkit's shows. Sam Rivers tormented his LED bass. After the concert, the fans referred to John Otto as “the god of thunder” because of his flawless drum performance. Fred Durst showed himself as first-class front man who is able to stir up the crowd with one word or one shout. A roll call with the audience during the song “Livin 'It Up” (It'll eat a hole - what? Down inside of me - what?......

Samurai and Sword

...l The History of the Japanese Samurai and Sword Brandon Stepka SOCI306 The history of the Japanese samurai and sword has always been an interesting topic to me. I will not only be discussing the correlations between the two, but also the evolution of each. Along with that, I will be expanding upon how the Japanese sword was created, how it became popular, and lastly, how it is link to Japanese culture. I would now like to start by giving you a background of the Japanese samurai. The Japanese warrior, also known as the samurai, appeared during the Heian Period (794-1185). They initially started out as warriors and protectors for wealthy landowners. This is partially where the name ‘samurai’ came about, meaning “those who serve”. The samurai truly began to grow during the Kamakura period, where the “establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, a hereditary military dictatorship, shifted all real political power in Japan to the samurai.” This power was forged by leader Minamoto Yoritomo, who pushed vigorously to establish a high social status for the samurai. Without the acknowledgement of Yoritomo, you would not be considered a samurai; he had the final say. Now that I have given you some basic history of the samurai, I would like to give you some interesting facts that I found to be very cool. First, the Japanese samurai’s would burn incense into their helmets before battle, because of the possibility their heads would be cut off it would not smell. ......

Sword of Allah

...Khalid ibn AI-Waleed “The Sword of Allah” (d. 21 A.H.) It is reported that Prophet Muhammad  said, ‘The better ones of you in the Days of Ignoranceare the better ones of you in Islam when they understand (the religion).” These wise words of Prophet Muhammad  were best proved in the case of our hero today, Khalid ibn AI-Waleed. For, it was Khalid ibn AI-Waleed who managed to cause the defeat of the Muslim army atUhud,??before his conversion t o Islam. After his acceptance of the Faith , Khalid ibn AI-Waleed was the champion of many a decisive battle in favour of Islam, such as the battle against Musaylimah the Imposter and the battle of Yarmauk against the Roman Empire’s army in Syria. In fact , the reader of history will find that Khalid ibn Al-Waleed was a military strategist and commander with very few equals in human history, a man who turned many a defeat or near defeat into glorious victories, as well shall see in the few examples we will be quoting. The first military encounter in which our hero showed his genius was the Battle of Uhud, which he (while a polytheist) caused to be the worst for Muslims in the early days of Islam. This battle was initiated by the Makkan polytheists in revenge for their defeat at the Battle of Badr, where more than thousand of them were defeated by only a little over three hundred Muslims fighters. In the Battle of Uhad, Prophet Muhammad  placed a group of archers on a nearby hill to give protection to the back of the Muslim army with......
