Only Time Will Tell Global warming is a topic that is affecting our world today at an alarming rate. We are seeing drastic temperature increase, receding polar ice caps, depleting ozone layers and habitat destruction. These things are all major issues that have become increasingly important because of global warming and there are numbers to prove that this is not just a hoax like some people believe. Increasing levels of Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere are raising the average temperatures on earth. Receding polar ice caps and rising water levels are destroying habitats for many creatures like the polar bear and other Arctic animals, and even are going to begin to destroy our own communities and space for living because there will be less land. Deforestation is also crippling animal populations in the tropics and forests are being destroyed at an alarming rate. All of these things are major issues that fit into global warming and these things must change if we wish to not destroy this planet. One of the major causes of global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases. The main gas that is responsible for global warming is Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This gas is emitted from various things, mainly from the burning of fossil fuels, energy production and factories. It is because of the Industrial Revolution, the burning of fossil fuels became central to the drive of economies. Starting in England in the late 18th century, factories began to spring up all over Europe. (Gore) People switched from the burning of wood to the burning of coal to fuel the factories. With the switch to burning coal, more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere that increases the greenhouse gas effect. Carbon Dioxide is called a greenhouse gas because the molecules absorb radiation from the sun and continuously deflect them to other carbon…...

...UV1765 RATIOS TELL A STORY—2005 Financial results vary between companies for a number of reasons. One reason for the variation can be traced to the characteristics of the industries in which the companies operate. For example, some industries require large investments in property, plant, and equipment, while others require very little. In some industries, the product-pricing structure allows companies to earn significant profits per sales dollar, while in other industries the product-pricing structure imposes a much lower profit margin. In most low-margin industries, however, companies often experience a relatively high volume of product throughput in their businesses. A number of industries are also characterized by lenient credit terms, while others sell for cash only. A second reason for some of the variation in financial results between companies is the result of management policy. Some companies reduce their manufacturing capacity to match more closely their immediate sales prospects, while others carry excess capacity to be prepared for future expansion. Also, some companies finance their assets with borrowed funds, while others avoid that leverage and finance their assets with owners’ equity. Of course, one other reason for some of the variation in reported results between companies is the differing competencies of management. Given the same industry characteristics and the same management policies, different companies may report different......

...Faulkner takes the readers back to the past events leading up to her death. Throughout the short story many references were made about time, this allowed readers to gain a little insight on the era in which the story took place and also an idea about the characters roles and so forth. The constant reference to the changes in time also suggests that there would be a dramatic change in Ms. Emily Greison’s attitude towards the other characters and her own character. In the beginning of the story, also the end of Ms. Emily’s life her characteristics are defined as cold and distant, throughout the story readers also see that Ms. Emily remains cold and distant. The narrator refers to this in his opening statement says, “When Ms. Emily Greison died the whole town went to her funeral-“. At first this suggest that the character was favorable amongst her peers but then it is quickly justified when the narrator says “The men through a sort of respectful affection and the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house.” This justification shows the lack of empathy town’s people had for the character, and the distant relationship Ms. Emily had with the town’s people. Without saying too much, readers can infer that Ms. Emily was not favorable amongst her peers and that she was so closed off that nobody had seen the inside of her house for quite some time. As the story continues the narrator takes readers back to two years prior what seems to be a dramatic change in Ms.......

The Time

...The Time What is the most horrible of institutions that ever entered human lives? Anyone, by the perceived notion of institutions might start listing education, family, marriage, state, religion etc. But, if we think once, all these institutions have something in common. They are all time - framed, time – bound, and submit us to conformity, which is again fitting itself into the framework of larger time that is life time. So, I would say, it is time that is the major institution that changed the face of our lives. Not only ours, but of course of the whole human society, be it in any part of the world. If you are someone like Plato, you would say, there is no such thing like time that is making life hard for us. Instead, it is the idea of time that is responsible for all the commotion. Well, I do agree with such people and say, “The Clock is the culprit”, and enquire how this dire consequence happened to us. Unfortunately, to track how this at all happened, we should still rely on time, gazing back at the past, so that our arguments would make some sense. By this, we could say that, time is eternal to our lives. It neither has a beginning nor ending. The entire creation moves on according to a time pattern. Time is one of those many necessary evils that happened to us. Tracing back to history, we don’t have any evidence to suggest when the word ‘time’ derived or established semantically, but the word ‘clock’ is derived from the Latin word ‘clocca’ which means ‘bell’ or......

...system should be geared toward paying employees what they earn within a reasonable time frame and accurately tracking paycheck amounts as well as tax and benefit withholdings. Payroll systems should be thorough without being overly complex and cumbersome, and they should be designed thoughtfully enough to work well with a minimum of oversight. Having a well-designed payroll system is in the best interest of employees, business owners and human resources staff. 2.2 Scope And Limitation Accuracy Accuracy is an important objective of a payroll system, because employees are entitled to be fairly compensated for the work they have done, and a company's financial well-being depends on not overpaying employees for the time they have worked. In addition, businesses are liable for payroll taxes on employee earnings as well as remitting payroll taxes that have been withheld from employee paychecks. Consistency A payroll system has many components, and the information in each section should be internally consistent. An employee's weekly wages over the course of a month should add up to the system's sum for his monthly wages, and the weekly totals for all employees over the course of the month should add up to the monthly total for all employees. Cost-Effectiveness A payroll system should be cost-effective by performing calculations efficiently and not taking more of the bookkeeper's time than necessary. In addition, an effective payroll system should provide detailed......

...English assignment 1. Characterise the victim/girl. The victim is dressed like a hugger. If you look at the close it seems dirty, and it looks like she got raped. She looks poor, but also like she could be pretty if she had taken car of herself. If you ask Grace McColl she looked like nobody had taken car of her, like her parents were dead, or didn’t existed for her. She has had a difficult childhood, and has been let down so many times, so she doesn’t really trust other people anymore. And the way she talks to people isn’t as pretty as it could be. 2. Characterise Grace McColl. Grace McColl is a very strong willed detective, who keeps her mind on the job and the goal (to find the killer). She like her job and like to help other people. Just like the victim/girl, she also had a difficult childhood but she manage to get over it and got an education and a real life job. She can relate to the victim, and can tell a lot of things because of that. She know how it is for the girl, she know how it is when you can’t trust anyone. 3. Discuss the difference in gender roles between the victim and Grace McColl. The difference between Grace and the victim is that they both had a hard and difficult childhood. The effect it had on the victim was just a lot different, than the effect it had on Grace. Grace grows up and got a job, and a life. The victim ended up just like her parents. It’s like the social heritage, some manage to break it, and some don’t. some place they......

...Ratios tell s a story Airline—Data 10 This set of date has a extremely high dividend payout ratio 332.6% although it has a very low ROS 0.1% and ROE 0.8%. Under this kind of situation this company could still pay dividends over three times to net income, meaning it is a company with strong financial background and enough retained earnings from previous years. An Airline company would normally has enough money to pay dividends even it is not financially successful in this year; and to some extent is has to pay shareholders enough dividends to maintain continuous investment since Airline requires a lot of capital to run every year. At the same time it has only 0.1% cash but 25.1% account receivables. When people buy tickets they normally pay online by using credit card, so an airline company would have very little cash. Railroad—Data 4 There is no inventory in this set of data. Railroad is a kind of company which has no inventory since it is just there and no inventory is needed. Also, cash has a high percentage 31.8% among all current assets. People driving pass one railroad would normally pay cash instead of using card. Pharmaceutical—Data 7 This set of data has the highest cash percentage among all the sets, 46.1%. A pharmaceutical company is able to have great cash flow since it does not always need a lot of capital to keep the day-to-day running. Because a pharmaceutical company has to do a lot of research and experiment, it will have more research &......

...previous knowledge about the Islamic Religion and the Arab people past of advances of mathematics in history when I was deployed to Kuwait but this chapter was shortly informative overall about the religion and past accomplishments on the Arab people. Although I don’t agree with the teachings of Muhammad I found the chapter interesting to read about the history of the birth of the Islam and the development of chemistry and algebra. As a Christian myself I believe that there is only one God and that Jesus is the child of God. That being said I don’t believe in the prophet Muhammad who was said to have come to teach the way of the Lord. I also I don’t agree on Muhammad’s teaching instructing that people should pray five times a day facing the holy city Mecca. In the Bible it is said that we as Christians should pray to God at all times continuously communicating to him. The last topic I do not agree with is having to take a pilgrimage traveling to the holy city Mecca once a year. In the Bible it tells us that when Jesus died on the Cross he created an open communication between God and us in which we don’t have to go to a certain place or have a certain person to be able to have communication with the Lord or to talk to Him and feel His presence we are able to do this ourselves. Although I do not agree with the teachings of Islam taught by Muhammad I did find the part of the chapter where they discussed the advancements on the Arabs ability to turn Roman numbers into our......

Don’t worry I will be there though you making me fastened and lice. Remember me! Begging you to please give me chance Airielle. “ >>>>>Austine Curl Xiu The reason why people hated to be with someone is that, they cannot find themselves a private way to express their own emotions and expressions. Other people might says, “Better to be with someone who will make you happy”, what if the reason why you prefer to be alone is that someone who you want to be with is always ignoring you when you need his help or let say his affection and belongingness is not unto you. What if every time you go for, is just like you’re a wind and crap to that person? How can you stay and find time to reassure that he will give you more time to talk with your problems or flaws either? How should you see yourself to be trapped and when you fall asleep the only thing you can imagine is your already dead without knowing and feel it? The Tell Tale Heart

...The Tell-Tale Heart Q. Choose a novel or a short story in which the author creates a fascinating character. By referring to appropriate techniques, show how the author has created this character and why you found him/her so interesting. Among the many strange and complex short stories by Edgar Allen Poe, ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ has come to be known as one of the most mysterious and psychologically intriguing. The story contains a fascinating character in form of the narrator, which is explored through Poe’s use of word choice, irony, and alliteration, as well as many other thought provoking techniques. The story as a whole explores the themes of perception versus reality, and the question of whether the evil within is worse than the evil without, and Poe delves into these themes using the character he has created to narrate the story. The story follows the murder of an old man and its aftermath, the story told with what seems like dazzling clarity on behalf of the narrator, obscuring the meaning of the act and calling the emotional stability of the unnamed, assumed male, narrator into question. In the very first sentence of the story, Poe introduces irony to draw in the reader, and leaves the beginning purposefully ambiguous to cause intrigue towards the narrator. “TRUE! – nervous – very, very dreadfully nervous I had been, and am; but why will you say that I am mad?” By starting the sentence with the word ‘true’, Poe leads us to believe what we read next will be some......

...Manage Your Energy, Not Your Time by Tony Schwartz and Catherine McCarthy The science of stamina has advanced to the point where individuals, teams, and whole organizations can, with some straightforward interventions, significantly increase their capacity to get things done. Steve Wanner is a highly respected 37-year-old partner at Ernst & Young, married with four young children. When we met him a year ago, he was working 12- to 14-hour days, felt perpetually exhausted, and found it difficult to fully engage with his family in the evenings, which left him feeling guilty and dissatisfied. He slept poorly, made no time to exercise, and seldom ate healthy meals, instead grabbing a bite to eat on the run or while working at his desk. Wanner‟s experience is not uncommon. Most of us respond to rising demands in the workplace by putting in longer hours, which inevitably take a toll on us physically, mentally, and emotionally. That leads to declining levels of engagement, increasing levels of distraction, high turnover rates, and soaring medical costs among employees. We at the Energy Project have worked with thousands of leaders and managers in the course of doing consulting and coaching at large organizations during the past five years. With remarkable consistency, these executives tell us they‟re pushing themselves harder than ever to keep up and increasingly feel they are at a breaking point. The core problem with working longer hours is that time is a finite resource.......

A Time to Listen, a Time to Speak

...A Time to Listen, A Time to Speak Chapter 3 of the book of Ecclesiastes tells us that there is an appropriate time for everything, such as planting and harvesting; building up and breaking down; crying and laughing; getting and losing; making war and making peace. Included in this list, in verse 7, is a time to keep silent and a time to speak. Good advice of course, but just how do we decide when to listen and when to speak? Like most things, the Bible gives us guidance in this area. Proverbs 18:13 tells us that it’s foolish to speak in a matter in which we have not heard. In other words, we need to hear the whole story, not just a rumor – get the facts. Likewise, James 1:19 tells us to be “swift to hear, slow to speak”. Both of these verses seem to imply that listening is actually more important than speaking. That makes sense to me, since God gave us two ears, and only one mouth. One of the things that influences how often a person speaks or listens is personality. Extroverts tend to be more talkative and think out loud; introverts tend to be quieter and think a great deal before speaking. You’ll often notice this at meetings. A few of the people do most of the talking. In the article “The Silent May Have Something to Say”, Kelley Holland describes this phenomena and compares a meeting to a tennis match in which a few vocal people talk back and forth , with most heads following those few speakers as they volley ideas. That’s a shame, because silent people...
