An Analysis of the Strengths and Weaknesses of My Own Style, Particularly in Connection with Creativity, Management, Change and Development.

...Style has a significant effect on the way people set about solving problems, making decisions, communicating and relating to each other. And cognitive style refers to our preference for thinking, working and behaving in particular ways. Five key dimensions Under the five key dimensions on which people differ in their degree of openness, organization, sociability, agreeableness and sensitivity, I would compare my strengths and weaknesses with these five domains. Openness and problem solving Differences in the degree of openness follow from the degree of variety people and value and their different ways of viewing the world. I am an implementer rather than an innovator. Strength: I often feel happy working within my company, adapting what problems are and focusing on doing things better. I always take a hands-on approach to get things done and work well with routine. My ideas are usually well-suited and turned into workable ways or policies. I am willing to have changes. Weaknesses: I am not curious enough to think and play with new ideas, and not always present innovative possibilities. The one who is good at coming up with new ideas in connection with an overall picture is seldom me. Organization and priorities Another key difference concerns the value placed on organization versus spontaneity. I am an organizers rather than a spontaneous people. Strength: I value task completion highly and like order. I always prepare things ahead of time. I am......

My Learning Style

...What is my Learning Style? Josh Hull COLL 100 American Military University Thomas Werner What is my Learning Style? During the course of this essay, I intend to discuss my own personal learning “style” or lack thereof and if the idea of a single “style” being the optimal way to learn. Although many people subscribe to this notion of a person having only one optimal way of learning – or style – I feel that this does not and cannot justly explain the multiple methods that I enjoy using to learn different subjects. I also believe that I cannot be so supremely unique as to be the only person that does not fit within the traditional “learning style” mold, thus leaving the only viable conclusion that most people do not fit within this archaic mold. Unfortunately, this idea of “styles” has been around long enough that most people currently enrolled in any form of a learning institution believe it to be a true principle and wrongly ascribe their shortcomings or successes in any particular subject to this faulty model. Before I begin that discussion, however, I will first explain my reasons for being back in school. After suffering for over a year with horrible unexplained symptoms, I discovered in January of this year that I had Stage II Kidney failure. This was due to the malpractice of a physician. Due to this condition and the affect it has on my breathing, adrenal functions and its progressive nature, I was medically retired from my career in law enforcement. So after......

My Personal Learning Style

...My Personal Learning Assessment Virginia Tucker AET: 525 February 26th, 2012 Deborah Hatfield My Personal Learning Assessment Many factors can affect a student’s ability to perform successfully in the classroom. One of these factors is his or her personal learning style. According to Howard Gardner, there are seven distinct learning styles (Gardner, 1985). The first of these styles is known as the “Verbal-Linguistic” Learner. A student with this type of learning style prefers to learn by using words and being vocal in class. He or she will use stories and enjoy question and answer sessions in class settings (Gardner, 1985). As with any learning style, there are problems that may arise with this particular learning style. Some examples include: 1. Difficulty with online classroom learning environments- These students strive on one-on-one interaction with both the instructor and other students. Not having this could greatly affect their learning ability. 2. Not working well with shy individuals in a team setting- “Verbal-Linguistic” learners need social interaction to fully learn a subject being presented to them in a class. These students may burden and or overshadow quieter students who prefer to work in a quieter environment. The second learning style is an “auditory” learner. An “auditory” learner relies on his or her hearing to succeed in the classroom. These students are very particular about their choice of words when speaking inside the......

...vertically as well as horizontally.) My Style LaVanessa Young Coll 100 American Public University Corey, Tutor (This blank page is unnecessary.) Title Should Appear Here The purpose of this essay is to examine and assess my learning style inventory. Using specific inventories, I would then seek out to measure my learning capabilities and provide my personal opinion on each one. I would also look into existing themes and determine whether this applies to my case or not. (unnecessary space) One of the main reasons for taking a learning style inventory is to determine my ability to identify how I specifically acquire information. This is connected to my overall objective of pursuing a College degree. Arguably, my participation to in a college/university remains to be essential because it can complement my professional goals and objectives. Likewise, my exposure to College allows the cultivation of skills that would complement my chosen field of expertise. In addition, the academic environment also provides opportunities to establish relationships with peers and develop connections with other people. (unnecessary space) Recognizing my goals in College, I realized the need for understanding my specific learning style. In particular, I chose the Center for New Discoveries in Learning (2012) and the ‘"Index of Learning Styles’" by Felder and Soloman (n.d.). Based from the two outcomes of my assessments, each......

...My Learning Style Lindsay Cavalier Hodges University HSA3145 Peter Van Leeuwan September 15th, 2013 Abstract We now know everyone has a different learning style. I do not believe all people have one type of learning style though. I believe as a company, all employees can benefit from a custom multimodal training. Each intake aspect from the individual learning styles can be tied into one another, for even better employee training! My Learning Style What is my learning style? I was happy to take part in this questionnaire, as I find it very accurate. According to the Vark questionnaire, I enjoyed the results page due to the emphasis on words and lists. I always assumed I was a hands-on and visual-type learner. According to the assigned text book’s six cognitive domains or levels of learning, I tend to skip to the fourth step of analysis. Within my own job, I am constantly analyzing how I can personally complete a task as efficiently and accurately as possible. In my line of work, the more efficiently you can complete a task, the fast the provider’s receive their revenue. The best strategies I can use would be utilizing lists for organizational purposes. I would prioritize them from highest to low priority, taking any anxiety stressors away from the work at hand. For an organization to properly train employees with different learning styles, they will need to analyze each learning style and pull the best qualities from each. I would pull two to......

My Leadesrship Style

... My Leadership Style By Berthe Chenekan To Dr. Boseman June 7, 2010 My Preferred Leadership Style I consider myself a democratic leader because I am relationship- and people-oriented. I believe that policies and decisions made in a group setting are best for all involved. Democratic leaders emphasize theme work and are willing to share responsibilities. I like to lead through cooperation, not by bossing around others. This means that I would seek to promote policies through group discussion, and place strong emphasis on teamwork. I believe that an effective manager not only encourages, but listens to input of the workers; an effective manager not only instructs the worker, but shows how the instruction should be carried out; the effective manager eliminates inspectors, and instead teaches the worker the value of doing their own inspection, fostering their own self-worth on the job and their part in making the company works. Effective leadership thus enhances job satisfaction, efficiency and work production (Huber, 2006). Leadership Theory I believe that I would be a good leader because I believe that all effective leaders recognize that their power to achieve organizational objectives comes from having a motived workforce who shares in the organization’s vision. In addition to my ability to establish clear visions and identifies ways to achieve goals, I am a people-oriented individual who believe that people perform at their best when the work that they do enables them......

My Learning Style

...My Learning Style Anthony Handly College 100 American Military University Dr. Tammy Means Introduction Throughout history in the United States, education has been on the forefront of our communities. Truth be told, people can’t live very successful lives without an education of some type. Being able to speak properly, read, write and conduct mathematics is practically a requirement to survive in society; as these skills are used every day to complete the most minor tasks. The challenge for most individuals today, is not the task of learning itself, but knowing how to learn. Historically children of ages five to eighteen were expected to sit in classrooms, listen to their teachers lecture about a subject, absorb and retain this information, then, recall it when a test is conducted; and sometimes that information was never used again. Fortunately educators, psychologists and other professionals have conducted research and studies concentrating on how people learn. This research proves that there is not just one way to learn. My Learning Style Learning Styles There are several learning styles, each with their own methods and techniques, which various people use to optimize their learning capabilities (Felder & Soloman, n.d.). Of the several different learning styles there are several that I have found are common among current college students. The kinesthetic learning...

My Conflict Style

...My Conflict Style Paper We study conflict because if we didn't, we are more likely to keep continuing the damaging patterns we see on the job and in our homes. Making sure we understand the structure of conflict and the factors that can help or eliminate conflict such as at work with fellow employees or managers or conflict at home with a girlfriend or wife, friend, or any other family member. When we study conflict, we can see the conflict is coming or occurring and can help resolve the disputes that are happening. I understand that every conflict style has its pros and cons, and therefore I should not flinch when after filling out the Putnam Self & Peer assessment and how it put me into the Non-Confrontational category. However, I was shocked to see my scores with the other two categories, Solution-Orientation & Control, and how close they were across the board. I already knew I had myself primarily in the Non-Confrontational category prior to the assessment and was surprised how close I fit in the Solution-Orientation category when dealing with conflicts. I tend to adjust my conflict style differently to who ever I am dealing with and where the dispute takes place, if that’s a conflict at home with my fiancé and/or roommate, or at work with fellow employees. Normally, the two emotions that are most common for me when I experience conflict are anger and being defensive. After I settle down, I usually have the feeling of shame that the conflict......

My Learning Style

...My Learning Style: And How I Have Adapted Every person has a learning style and most of us combine styles. There are three main learning styles; do you know what your style or styles are? The styles are audio learning, which are people who learn best by listening and hearing information. Visual learning or people who learn by seeing things, objects, displays and take note of interesting points that they can relate to. The last style is the tactile learner; the doer’s the people who learn by actually doing things hands on. Based on data taken from two questionnaires “Assessing Your Learning Style” (Kolb, 1984) and “Multiple Intelligences Survey” (McKenzie, 1999) I discovered that my learning style is Kinesthetic or tactile. Let’s discuss how I discovered my learning style and how I adapted to it to benefit my learning experience and I will discuss an example of how I applied this learning style. Identifying your own personal learning style is important not only to ourselves but to our educators to aid in a plan outlining how we as an individual learn most effective. After describing the three basic learning styles and you have a basic understanding let’s concentrate on the tactile learner or the Kinesthetic Learning Style. The tactile learner will take action rather than thinking or planning what action to take. There are many positive attributes to a tactile learner, they usually have very good dexterity, can assemble and disassemble things proficiently and are very......

How Technology Affected My Life Style

...Name: Gian Rivero Submitted To: Ms. Lisa G. Alvarez Class: English 110-13 Date: 16th September 2014 The many ways technology has impacted my life! Fifty years ago, we would not have been able to do what we can do today. Technology has brought the human race to an era of technological dependencies; where one cannot perform a simple math problem without the help of the internet. Nevertheless, technology keeps growing and I have realized that it has helped us in many ways. From building a house, to doing a simple math calculation on a calculator, tasks that were once difficult can now be performed in a matter of minutes, even seconds. Technology has had an impact in my life as it has allowed me to access information faster, has made house hold chores easier and has made school life simple. As the days go by, valuable information is released out to the public and thanks to technology; we can access that information faster. Gadgets such as laptops, tablets and smart phones, have allowed us to just type in a few words, click one or two buttons and bam! I am now up to date on today’s news. This is more efficient as I don’t have to wait for a certain time to watch the news on the television or hear it on the radio. Information that can be found in the library can also be found on the internet, which makes researching less of a hassle. Now, I don’t have to go to the library and try to find a book that has little or no information on the topic I am researching. Technology has...

Though college can be difficult at times in many ways then one financially academically personally physically etc. For me this is my third year in college and I have to say in those three years I have found [myself questioning if getting my college degree is worth it or if I should just drop out. But I have to keep remember why I’m doing this is the first place ill make more money with a degree it will also increase my job opportunities as well as open future opportunities that I may not be considering now. My mother always told me you want to make yourself more marketable, and getting my degree I will make me more marketable. Not saying you can't build a career without a college degree because I know some people can and have. I think I would have a better opportunity at getting a better paying job with a college degree. My Learning Style

...Why one should know one's learning style? Humans absorb information and learn new concept through a variety of methods utilizing their senses such as touch, visual and auditory, and as such there are several leaning styles that one can incorporate. Knowing one's preferred learning style can lead to a more efficient and thorough understanding of information and concepts the person is attempting to learn. It is important and necessary for one to become familiar with their own style for maximum retention and confidence in the learning process. Keep in mind, styles can coexist and merge with more than one being used at a time, with each reinforcing the other . “Learning styles are different and unique ways used by individual as they prepare to learn and recall information, so it is also important to know this in order to tailor a teacher's teaching methodology to suit his students."( Ranganath, 2015). According to the Vark's questionnaire, there are several learning styles that helps my learning by suggesting the strategies I should be using such as "visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic."( Fleming). Visual Learner " A Visual learner can remember and achieve the best results by looking at the pictures, images, movies, and demonstrations by the teacher or conducted oneself." (" (Felder, 2015). An example that comes to mind is a physiology and anatomy class where an anatomy mannequin was used as a display for all the students to......

How Do My Styles of Communication Have an Effect on My Communication with Others?

...How do my styles of Communication have an effect on my communication with others? This class has helped me break into who I believe I am and how I may reflect those beliefs onto others. I have found that my communications skills are very strong in some areas and could use some work in other areas. It is my opinion that many factors in life can help or hinder the way you communicate your needs, wants, emotions and thoughts. Many feel that by expressing their opinions or emotions others will portray them as being weak or overbearing and in some cases if a different approach of communication was taken, these expressions will have been perceived differently. Through my studies I have found that I am a very active listener with tendencies to be passive and can work at being more efficient in communicating my emotions in a productive manner. “Your personal success and happiness depend largely on your effectiveness as an interpersonal communicator.” (Devito, 2016) My communications skills are very strong when it comes to listening to others, being a lending ear and encouraging others to have open lines of communication. It is my opinion that many factors in life can help or hinder the way you communicate your needs, wants, emotions and thoughts. My Learning Style

...My learning style When I first started to revise and learn for my learning style, I did two questionnaires called honey and Mumford and the preferred learning style. The first questionnaire I did was the honey and mumford questionaairs which was made up of 80 questions and for each statement there was a tick box to determine which one best suited my personality. After completing the 80 questions I added up which questions I ticked into a table. Depending on how many I ticked detrmined what sort of leanrer I was. There are four rows of numbers which were used and under each row there was the type of learner. It was either Activist, reflector, theorist and pragmatist. After answering the questions I found out I was an activist. From this I am someone who likes to take risks and also is spontaneous. Instaed of being logical with ideas I prefer to take a trial and error approach. II would rather do a task and get lots of mistakes so that I can re do my work so that I can learn how to improve my work for the next occasion that I do a similar piece of work. However because I have poor time management I struggle to priortise my work and focus on whats needs to be done and as a result I get stressed. The preferred learning style is where if I get a statement and I decide wheather I agree with it or not. After completing it I found that I am a kinaesthetic learner. This means when I learn I like having a visual stimulus to help me and I like having a reward for hard work if I earn...
