...Specifically, the strength of a linear association between 2 variables is termed correlation. Although there are several measures of correlation, the most commonly reported is the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (typically abbreviated with a lowercase “r”).6 The Pearson correlation is an expression of the association between 2 continuous variables; other correlations may be reported according to differing characteristics of the variables (e.g., Spearman’s rho, which is a correlation coefficient for ranked variables). Correlation coefficients measure 2 facets of a relationship: (1) the magnitude (with absolute coefficient values ranging from zero to one) and (2) the direction (either positive Author GRANT H. Medical Assistant

...Medical Administrative Assistant Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly. The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner's specialty. In small practices, medical assistants usually do many different kinds of tasks, handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Those in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area, under the supervision of department administrators. Medical assistants should not be confused with physician assistants, who examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the direct supervision of a physician ( Some medical assistants may help doctors examine and treat patients. They may check the height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure of each patient. Assistants write down patients' medical histories and run simple laboratory tests. Sometimes they answer patients' questions about medicines and treatment at home. Assistants may also give injections, apply bandages, and take X-rays. Many assistants take electrocardiograms, which measure the electrical impulses of the heart. Medical assistants are sometimes in charge of buying and maintaining medical equipment and furniture for the doctor's office. They may also act as office......

Medical Assistant

...A front office employee may be called a medical assistant, and may not technically be one. They’re often gifted secretaries or receptionists, excellent at communicating with people, and good at reading medical documentation. Other times a medical assistant may perform both a share of secretarial work and back office duties. Sometimes doctor’s offices do not employ medical assistants but instead choose to employ nurses to perform all back office work. Since the requirements for medical assisting vary, a patient may not always know the skills and level of training of the medical assistant. Patients should know that neither medical assistants nor nurses, unless they are nurse practitioners, can diagnose problems or prescribe medication. Since you are a paying customer at any doctor’s office, you can certainly ask, if you doubt the experience of a medical assistant for a doctor or nurse to perform any type of medical procedure, i.e., removing stitches, swabbing for strep throat, giving injections. This may not endear you to a particular assistant but it’s certainly within your rights to ask. If you’d like to become a medical assistant, and you’re still in high school, consider studying general office skills, computer skills, and the sciences, particularly biology, chemistry, and anatomy. Though a necessary part of the medical team, recognize that the financial rewards for this field are not great. As of 2006, the average salary in this field was a scant $21,000 US Dollars......

Medical Assistant

...Jocelinn Pineda 06/17/2013 Chapter 6 Exercise 6-1 The EHR in this physicians practice contains many functions. Look at the functions above. What function(s) do you think a medical assistant would use and why? Medical assistants might use the practice view icon to search for their email in case they are unable to contact a patient by phone. Patient view icon may be another function medical assistance may use for the administrative data of a patient. Exercise 6-2 Why is it important to use more than one attribute when searching for a patient, especially in addition to a first and/or last name? It’s important because the search using a first and/or last name can bring up two or more patient’s with the same names and if you use a birth date in the search a more accurate result of the patient that you are looking for can come up. Exercise 6-3 Briefly describe administrative, clinical, and billing data and state whether the screen above contains any such data. Administrative data is the information of the patient such as full name, date of birth, address, social security number, and telephone numbers. Clinical data is the patients health information. And billing data includes financial information about a patient; the screen above does contain administrative data. Exercise 6-4 The EHRS has the ability to capture data using a drop-down menu. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a drop-down menu? An advantage of using a drop-down menu is that it......

Scope and Practice of a Physician's Assistant

...The Scope of Practice of a Physician Assistant The term scope of practice has been defined as “The definition of the rules, the regulations, and the boundaries within which a fully qualified practitioner with substantial and appropriate training, knowledge, and experience may practice in a field of medicine or surgery, or other specifically defined field. Such practice is also governed by requirements for continuing education and professional accountability” (Defining Scope of Practice, n.d.). Physicians, nurses and all other medical professionals are required to know what their particular scope of practice includes and to adhere to those guidelines at all times. Many different types of healthcare professionals are found in an Emergency Room facility, and they will all have a scope of practice that they must adhere to. One such healthcare professional would be a PA or a Physician Assistant. A PA must work under the supervision of a Physician who is ultimately responsible for the PA’s performance and professional conduct with the patient. Any medical procedures that the supervising Physician performs in his scope of practice may be delegated to the PA, as long as the PA has had the necessary training and competency to successfully perform the procedure (Rogers, 2007). In an Emergency room setting a PA may be responsible for such patient care activities as evaluating incoming patients through the process of obtaining a complete and accurate health history, conducting......

The Assistant

...Donovan Cann Coach Schmotzer PE 224 12/2/14 Paper 3: Assistant coaches Another thing that ties into coaching and is a big part of the program are assistant coaches. I say this because an assistant coach can either be a real help or a big problem. Some assistant coaches embrace the tasks at hand and some run from them. The article “An Assistant’s Focus” talks about how as an assistant you have a tough role. You have to be “on” at all times. This means no slippage weather its handling a task or even at practice. You have to always be motivating and paying attention not just sitting in the background. This brings up the question of a coaches trust in his assistant and the coaches intelligence. In my opinion the head coach’s intelligence is based on the quality of people around him. I think so because in any situation you want to surround yourself with the people who have the same knowledge of you or higher. This way you can learn from each other. As a coach you’re not going to be around someone that doesn’t give positive insight on things or makes you feel less smart. Another thing is image if you’re surrounded by people who are not as intelligent as you it makes you seem less intelligent to the other people around you. Something that comes to mind also is decision making. There is a vast difference between suggesting and making a decision. As an assistant coach you often give your opinion and how you view things, and as a good head coach you will value your......
