How Can Organizations Learn Faster? The Challenge of Entering the Green Room

In this article Edgar Schein explains how it is shocking to him how leaders today still are afraid to change their environments within the workplace. Any business must be able to readily adapt and change at any moment. With today’s evolving markets it is key to possess these attributes to succeed. Many leaders today are afraid to shift change or learn how to change because they are scared to go against the social norm, and this is where we fail as leaders. Schein explains how we must understand that learning is not a unitary concept. He breaks learning down into three separate categories including: knowledge acquisition and insight, habit and skill learning, and emotional conditioning and learned anxiety. Schein associates knowledge acquisition and insight with a concept called Anxiety 1, which is the feeling associated with an inability, or unwillingness to learn something new because it appears too difficult or disruptive. He explains for habit and skill learning to take hold, we need opportunities, to practice and make mistakes. He also mentions the concept of Anxiety 2 as the fear, shame, or guilt, associated with not learning anything new. For us as workers not to conform to these Anxiety’s and norms, and for change to occur, me must destabilize the organization and simultaneously manage three processes in the workplace. These include: disconfirmation, creation or guilt or anxiety, and creation of psychological safety. People are almost always going to feel anxiety become uncomfortable when trying to change. We must reduce the feeling of anxiety and make it a cultural norm so people feel they are in a stress free, comfortable environment. People must have a sense of direction and be surrounded by a comfortable environment that…...

...such as financial industries where sustainable financing and banking are the new catch-phrases. Delving into the green initiatives in Malaysia, we see the efforts and support that the government has put into realising the green concept in the country. Malaysia gazetted the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations, Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations and Environmental Quality (Control of Pollution from solid waste transfer stations and Landfill) in 2009. Further to this, Malaysia pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40% by 2020. The seriousness of the Malaysian government’s intentions towards climate change and the need for energy security and green technology, ultimately led to the establishment of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water on 9 April 2009. The National Green Technology Policy is defined by four main pillars – energy, minimising energy consumption; environment, conserving and minimising environmental impact; economy, enhancing economic development through technology and social, a need to improve the quality of life for all. The policy basically intends to utilise energy efficiently in bid to enhance the economy while increasing the nation’s capability for green technology innovation and educating the public on green technology. The government has put much effort in ensuring the creation of a green community in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth Malaysia plans. In the current Malaysia plan there is much......

Room

...My Room As I sleepily stumble into my house at midnight there is only one place I want to be: my room. As I walk in I try to avoid the clothes thrown all over like landmines in a battlefield. My room is the closest resemblance to me, someone who loves sports and music. I flop onto my bed staring up at the ceiling light covered in baseballs and basketballs. In one of the corners of the ceiling there is an ugly yellow stain the size of a football from my once leaky roof. My room has changed little since I was younger. Everywhere I look I see something to do with sports, mostly the Red Sox. Two red pin strips wrap around my white walls. As I sit on my bed tucked away in the right corner, I catch myself staring at a huge picture of Fenway Park hanging above my desk. To the right the infamous picture of Carlton Fisk waving his homerun right hangs over my closet. Dangling from a hanger on my closet is a retro New York Mets jersey signed by Mike Piazza that waits to be encased. Right next to my bed an oversized Red Sox logo sticks to the wall. The logo is almost bigger than the wall itself. A black and red “jet life hangs” over my head, probably the only thing that doesn’t have to do with sports in my room. My desk is littered with nickels, dimes, and pennies that I have tossed on it. There are clothes all over my desk; some folded others rolled up in balls that have been sitting there for days. The top of the desk is covered in filthy black hats with faded red CW logos...

...Stephanie Martinez Ms. Hawkins English 976 November 24, 2014 “You Must Vote” On September 21, 2012 Hank Green discusses in his Vlog “You Must Vote” how important it is as an American to vote. Green examines all the horrible reasons why people say that they don’t want to, or why they can’t vote. One example Green gives is “one single vote might not count towards who wins the election but every vote does count” (Green). What he is saying is to those of you who think that your one vote won’t change anything, but in fact it does. You need multiple people to make a difference and you can be one of those people. Green talks about how Americans have a voice in this country and voting is a way to get one of those voices heard. We have pretty good system when it comes to voting what we say goes we all have a say in what happens in this country. “Voting is our responsibility” (Green). Green basically is saying that voting is important so all those excuses you have are just excuses and you need to let your voice be heard. I defiantly agree with Green I have never voted and I realize now that my vote might not have a huge impact to what happens but it is still an impact. If only half of people voted in the United States then the other half of people wouldn’t matter. For example, if they voted gay marriage illegal then it will be because no one else is voting to help change it. If all Americans voted then everyone’s view and opinions would matter. After, watching this video I......

Going Green

...INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS AND GROUP PROCESSES Going Green to Be Seen: Status, Reputation, and Conspicuous Conservation Vladas Griskevicius Joshua M. Tybur University of Minnesota University of New Mexico Bram Van den Bergh Rotterdam School of Management Why do people purchase proenvironmental “green” products? We argue that buying such products can be construed as altruistic, since green products often cost more and are of lower quality than their conventional counterparts, but green goods benefit the environment for everyone. Because biologists have observed that altruism might function as a “costly signal” associated with status, we examined in 3 experiments how status motives influenced desire for green products. Activating status motives led people to choose green products over more luxurious nongreen products. Supporting the notion that altruism signals one’s willingness and ability to incur costs for others’ benefit, status motives increased desire for green products when shopping in public (but not private) and when green products cost more (but not less) than nongreen products. Findings suggest that status competition can be used to promote proenvironmental behavior. Keywords: altruism, environmental conservation, costly signaling, status competition, consumer behavior ported that the number one reason for purchasing the car is because it “makes a statement about me.” What statement does the Prius make? “It shows the world that its owner...

Knowledge is not attained but constructed. This statement is a new challenge in the present classroom. Construction of understanding is a core element in the highly complex process of teaching and learning underpinned by constructivist teaching. Constructivism is the latest buzzword among the teaching community across the world and National curriculum framework (2005) has shown the direction to nit in Indian classroom situation. Constructivism basically a theory based on observation and scientific study about how people learn .the basic idea about constructivism is that the learner must construct knowledge; the teacher cannot supply it. In the constructivist classroom the teacher must encourage students to use active techniques ,e.g. experiments, real world, problem solving , to create more knowledge and then to reflect on and talk about what they are doing and how their understanding is changing. In constructivist classroom focus shifts from the teacher to the students. In constructivist classroom learning is interactive; teachers have dialogue with students. The Room

...In that place between wakefulness and dreams, I found myself in The Room. There were no distinguishing features save for the one wall covered with small index-card files. They were like the ones in libraries that list titles by author or subject in alphabetical order. But these files, which stretched from floor to ceiling and seemingly endlessly in either direction, had very different headings. As I drew near the wall of files, the first to catch my attention was one that read "Girls I Have Liked." I opened it and began flipping through the cards. I quickly shut it, shocked to realize that I recognized the names written on each one. And then without being told, I knew exactly where I was. This seemingly lifeless room with its small files was a crude catalog system for my life. Here were written the actions of my every moment, big and small, in a detail my memory couldn't match. A sense of wonder and curiosity, coupled with horror, stirred within me as I began randomly opening files and exploring their content. Some brought joy and sweet memories; others a sense of shame and regret so intense that I would look over my shoulder to see if anyone was watching. A file named "Friends" was next to one marked "Friends I Have Betrayed." The titles ranged from the mundane to the outright weird. "Books I Have Read," "Lies I Have Told," "Comfort I Have Given," "Jokes I Have Laughed At." Some were almost hilarious in their exactness: "Things I've Yelled at My Brothers." Others I......
