According to Peter Drucker(1909-2005), the basic task of management is marketing and innovation. Management is included as a factor of production along with machines, materials, and money. Management consists of the interlocking functions of formulating corporate policy and organizing, planning, controlling, and directing an organization’s resources to achieve the policy’s objectives. Conducted by the English statesman functions Sir Thomas More(1478-1535), practice of modern management owes its origin to the 16th century enquiry into low-efficiency and failures of certain enterprises.
A manager’s major challenge is to solve problems creatively. In order to crack the troubles, management has been categorized into the four primary elements which include the planning, organizing, leading, and controlling also known as P-O-L-C framework. This four supreme element, are actually highly integrated when it have been apply in the realities of running an organization. However, this P-O-L-C functions might be ideal but, they do not accurately depict the day-to-day actions of actual managers. This is because the typical day in the life of a manager at any level can be fragmented and hectic. However, general conclusion seems to be that the P-O-L-C functions of management still provide a very useful way of classifying the activities managers engage in as they attempt to achieve organizational goals.
Planning is the function of management that involves setting objectives and determining a course of action in order to achieve those objectives. Planning requires the managers to be aware of environmental conditions facing their organization in present and predict future conditions. It also requires that managers become good decision makers. After receiving this assignment and using a decision making process was a big decision. Trying to decide on how to write this paper required me to go through steps of the process. Decision making is the study of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the decision maker. Making a decision implies that there are alternative choices to be considered, and in such a case we want not only to identify as many of these alternatives as possible but to choose the one that (1) has the highest probability of success or effectiveness and (2) best fits with our goals, desires, lifestyle, values, and so on. The two important ideas here are that first, there must be some genuine alternatives to choose from among. Note that "Do it" or "Don't do it" does not qualify as a set of alternatives. Only "Do this" or "Do something else" really qualfies. Second, every decision must be made in the light of some standard of judgment. This standard usually gets expressed in the form of criteria, which reflect the values and preferences of the decision maker.
