Dating and Mating
In today’s society we are faced with a secular view of dating and mating. These views can be seen by turning on the television, or opening your email. Television shows like Jersey Shore, promote random sex, and multi partner relationships, while the internet is inundated with dating sites and pornography. The dating practices today focus on more of an intimate relationship than an emotional or spiritual bond between both parties. Sex today is more of a game, than a special moment between a man and his wife.
The line is very blurred between biblical and secular dating and mating views, although it should be clear and distinct. The Lord guides us to keep the dating process pure by not mating till marriage. In the Hebrews 13:4 we are told that pre-marital sex is wrong, “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery” (New Living Translation).
As a born again believer I feel the only way God will bless the marriage is to avoid sex until marriage. As Christians we should put our love and obedience to Jesus ahead of their own desires. These common beliefs should be the foundation for love respect and self-sacrifice that a great relationship is based upon. Finding a partner in Christ is one of the hardest steps to overcome when starting the dating process. Juliet Klee states, “You need to be dating only someone who shares your level of commitment to your faith in Christ. Someone who has similar goals and ideals when it comes to family, worship, and commitment to Christ is going to be a better match for you and will be more understanding of your desire to live and act according to your beliefs”…...

...Dating and Mating: Secular View vs. Biblical View Brandon Gilford L22164457 Liberty University PSYC 101-D02 LUO Introduction How do you find your perfect match? How do you find your partner for life? And when you meet that someone, how do you know you've made the right choice? These are questions we all ask at some point in our life during the dating and mating process. There are many different views and answers to these questions, but in this paper I want to focus on the secular world views and the biblical views and how both views contradict each other. The Secular View on Dating and Mating Popular or mass culture (including advertising and self-help books) is the most obvious and direct influence on the attitudes associated with the pursuit of romantic relationships (Paul Hollander, Expert Advice on Dating and Mating, p.1) Romance today is now filtered through a media that says marriage is a joke, gay marriages are considered normal, and divorce is your way out. In seeking a mate the world tends to go to the internet dating sites, and social networks for direction. People are also swayed by what the media says is ideal to pursue through TV shows, movies, and talk shows. In today’s world love means sex, and if you’re not sexy then you can’t possibly find the love you are searching for. So the world puts all of there focus completely on things like......

Onlinde Dating

...Felix Chevasco Professor: LoRe English 101 Date: 12/10/12 Traditional Courtship vs. Online Dating The Difference between Traditional courtship and Internet Dating When I was listening to my favorite talk show, Focus on the Family, they talked about the advantages of Internet dating. This allows the listeners, who got married prior the new millennium, to ponder the benefits of online dating, which were absent during their time of courtship. In traditional dating initial eye contact and study of the personality of the person is an important element in determining chemistry. However, what makes traditional dating best is the boundary and purpose that courtship provides. In contrast, online dating is more casual. In traditional dating, couples were introduced to each other by a friend and relative, or they met in a social activity such as their local church, school or family reunion. Nowadays, it is not necessary to meet people face to face in order to start a relationship. The internet changes our lives forever with chat rooms, social networks or online websites. More and more people are drawn to using the internet as a form of dating, with a high cost, and are unaware of the danger that you can face meeting with a stranger. Traditional dating is much better that online dating because traditional dating gives the couple the complement of courtship, commitment and purpose. Traditional dating is not only based in a feeling or a rush gut reaction. It gives the couple the......

Internet Dating

...Title : Internet Dating: Should or Should Not? Stand : Should Not Specific purpose : To convince my audience that internet dating brings lots of danger. In the world we live in today some people rely on the internet in order to find love. But online dating isn't all that it's cracked up to be. In fact, you should stay away from it. Dating online is not safe. Sure there are some dating sites that are legitimate and a little less dangerous, but some people rely on facebook, myspace, and instant messaging for dating which is just plain wrong. Not only is it unpersonal, but you can never tell who you're really seeing. The picture you're looking at could be years old or be a different all together. And if you finally decide to meet your online partner, it's very likely that you'll be disappointed in their real appearance or, in a worse case scenario, find that you're dating a pedophile. It's great that people enjoy finding love, but it's best not to do it online. It's a dangerous and impersonal experience that leads to disappointment most of the time. If you find yourself looking for your soulmate, do it the old fashioned way and go out and meet someone in person. Because of the dangerous internet dating brings to a person's life. It can be addictive, rise of fake personality, and also charge of to much money on membership fees. Dating and Mating

...The dating and mating selection process as been looked at from two angles, the male and female approach to mate selection. Men are considered more physical beings and their initial reactions are initiated by physical attributes of the other sex. “Our natural yearnings are our genes’ way of reproducing themselves” (Psychology. pg. 147, Meyers). Men look for beautiful skin, curvy body, attributes we contribute to a great child bearing mate. From personal experience I believe this to be true, when I look at a woman that I find attractive, the hips, complexion and healthy appearance are vital parts to finding her attractive. The text explains these views as viewing woman as fertile mates. As I believe the hip factor for myself and other men, is a factor that plays out as a woman being able to carry a child and deliver a baby through the birth canal, compared to a woman with small hips, that ordinary I wouldn’t be attracted to. Women on the other hand chose mates on how they relate to the individual. Women look for attributes of the male being a good provider for their offspring along with being around to raise the kids. Of course women were compared to picking their mates wisely because of the factor they have to nurture one child at a time, where on the other hand a male can disseminate and spread his genes without adversely being effected. This statement could be true to some but these days of child support, I would have to believe that men and women are......

...Running head: The Dating and Mating Process 1 The Dating and Mating Process God’s View and the World’s View Donna L. Herrera The Dating and Mating Process 2 Abstract This paper will explore two different principles of dating and finding a mate. The first will be a biblical view of finding of dating and finding a mate. Two Biblical references are used to support my opinion on the dating and mating process, how we should use God’s word through scripture to define relationships and the way we should live our lives. The second will be a world view of dating and finding a mate. I use my own personal experience and years of working with teenagers as a youth pastor to help express my opinion on how I feel the world view defines dating and looking for a mate. I refer to David Elkind (1984) wherein he suggests that teenagers have had to become premature adults. As hard as this to believe I feel that this is still true today. This paper is based on my sincere heartfelt feeling on this subject. The Dating and Mating Process 3 The Dating and Mating Process God’s View and the World’s View The Bible really does not address dating as it is viewed in our world today. I have heard it argued the Bible speaks of “courting” in Proverbs 18:22 which states that, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.”(NKJV) The argument is the word find implies seeking or looking for a wife. I......

...communicate. Let’s look at what we now call online dating. A person can now find a potential soul mate with the click of a mouse, but can one completely forget traditional dating, something that has been around for centuries. What happened to those days of courting and going out to meet your potential suitor? We now live in a world where computer generated questionnaires will do the leg work for you. Though online dating and traditional dating ultimately have the same goal of finding “the one,” they are different in many ways. It now seems that more people are flocking to online dating, but is it really better or worse than the age old method? Entering the dating scene can be a challenging and overwhelming process. When you add on technology, you enter another realm of dating. Online dating seems to be a fast growing trend and has become a popular alternative to dating. With the internet now having daily usage, more people are willing to look to it for help. “There are billions of people online which could make the possibility of connecting with someone easier than it has been in the past. With the internet you are given a wider range of people to meet that are also looking for relationships.” (Finkel, Paul, Benjamin, Harry, & Sprecher, 2012, para. 12). Singles are now willing to attempt anything to find their mates. The question now becomes how far are people really willing to go to find that someone. Think about traditional dating and how it has evolved.......

Online Dating

...Advancement in modern technology have made the process of discovering a partner simpler for many around the world. An a online dating website allows a user to construct a profile with information of themselves, granting others to focus on profiles with identical passions, expectations as well as other important aspects. Countless numbers of the population are resorting to the internet as an accessory to find a mate in the modern days. However, even though online dating has effective advantages on the users, there are also various disadvantages that comes along the way. One of the most considerable advantage of online dating is the idea of concentrating on profiles with similar interests in the comfort of ones home without having to commute to meet the certain other individual. "Meaningful dating can be done at a distance, even in other countries" (Croft ). The thought of less driving generates a effective influence about finding a mate online. Furthermore various online dating sites authorize others to view and learn before striking up a conversation with a user. However “If a "surfer" is not witty or doesn't write well, online dating can be difficult.” (Croft) One of the main issue with online dating is the capability to identify whether the person your conversing with is genuinely the individual that they say they are. Despise the fact that many say “pictures are worth a thousand words” much of the time they are not of the person being spoken with. A user may......

Dating

...Dating The Bible tells us to be very careful about giving our affections, because our heart influences everything else in our life. Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23). We also tend to become like the people we hang around. Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33). Although its fine for Christians to have non-Christian friends, those who you are dating should be believers who are seeking to follow Christ with their lives. Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14). Does the situation I put myself in promote sexual immorality or help me avoid it. (1 Corinthians 6:18) says to "flee from sexual immorality." Sex was not created by Satan, Playboy, and porn was. Sex was created by the holy God of heaven, where purity reigns. God made sex physically desirable by creating us with sex drives, without that sex wouldn’t exist and neither would people. God’s Word talks about pleasure of sex within the marriage relationship (Proverbs 5: 19; Song of Solomon 4:5;) The bible says that sex outside of marrige is a sin so you should not to it. Satan will tempt you to to it but you have to resist.Being equally yoked basically means that you should not be with other christians or date them because you have a chance to go away from God because of them. If you hang around and get into a......

Dating or Waiting

...Dating is a hot topic for parents and for teenagers. Many parents believe that their children should wait to date, because they are not mature or there is no point in dating unless you plan on marrying that person. But why wait to date; you should learn how to handle a relationship and how to get along with the opposite gender. There are a lot of “thumbs up” to dating. Why do parents think we as teens aren’t mature? The truth is teens are mature but in their own way. We can act stupid and laugh at stupid stuff—just like adults do. But that doesn’t mean that we aren’t mature, it just means that we want to have fun and enjoy life. We as teens can be serious too, but only when we need to be. Dating is a way that will help us mature and “grow-up”. It will help us feel grown-up as well as teach us lessons that we will use when we are “gown-up”. All parents tell us teens about dating are the negative side to dating, but they always leave out the positive. There are so many positives such as communication and trust. When you are dating someone you need to communicate and talk about how you feel and just everyday life to learn more about each other and to stay connected. Also when you are in a relationship you need to trust your partner, trust is a huge life skill that you need to learn when you are young. Dating as a teen is a good way to find out what you are looking for in a spouse. Dating can also help you with hurt and rejection. Which will also help you in the future,......

...Running head: DATING AND MATING BIBLICAL AND SECULAR VIEWS 1 Compare And Contrast Randall W. Ames Liberty University DATING AND MATIING BIBLICAL AND SECULAR VIEWS 2 Dating and Mating Biblical and Secular Views In the beginning God saw it was not good that man should be alone and he created a mate called woman. Since that time men and women have engaged in dating and mating. There are however many different views on this subject. There is clearly a biblical view of dating and mating and secular view of dating and mating. The most popular way of finding a date now is the Internet dating sites; Macarthur says that compatibility is the holy grail of Internet dating services (Macarthur, 2009). Many times the problem with seeking a mate through Internet dating sites we find there is no accountability. People are seeking compatibility, however it is difficult to find true compatibility because people have a tendency to spice up their profile. The secular view says follow your heart. It is a very self-oriented thought process. Are they compatible for me? Because the secular view is so inward looking it has led to astronomical numbers of people now believing that co-habitation is the best way to find out if they are compatible. This however, according to Myers has led to higher rates of divorce (Myers 2013). The secular self-oriented view is; will this person be compatible with me......

Athena Abigail Tizon tunay niyang pangalan."   Siya yung Athena na akala niya ako.. magkatunog pa kami ng surname Dizon.. Tizon.. Ang weird ha. pareho na nga ng pangalan magkatunog pa ng surname!   "Ano niya yun? Maganda ba? Schoolmate ba natin?" napaka tsismosa naman ni Sara! Dating and Mating

...Dating and Mating: A Secular finding, with a Biblical perspective. The debate of the dating and mating issue has been a hot topic that’s been discussed for many Years. Questions as to what leads us to choose our mates? Where do our thoughts come from? And what is behind our decisions? The secular world has seen a rise and fall of marriages in the last 30 to 40 years. In 1970 the average of people married was at an astonishing 72 percent. While in 2005, we saw the percentage of people married drop to 59 percent. (Friedman, 2005) Why the decline? Have we changed so much in society where marriage or commitments don’t really matter. The answer is yes! It all stems from our society putting God in the back our lives, and doing whatever is pleasurable, and happy. Having a mate on the other hand, that you’re committed to takes time, energy, and patience. God tells us in Genesis the terms husband and wife. Gods plan wasn’t for us to have many relationships, or marriages. It was designed because of the nature we have. Joshua Harris, in his book, "I Kissed Dating Goodbye," describes his ideas on why he feels dating is overrated. He talks about his disenchantment with the contemporize Secular dating scene. He feels that if God has a mate for him, then God will deliver them together for His purpose. Secular views on dating and mating are simple: If it’s broke, then leave. While The Christian standpoint stands for the vow that it was based upon. I......
