Coach K. and Coach Knight Leadership Styles
“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” — Vince Lombardi. This is one of many quotes from Coaching is I feel at times, because some things are left until the last minute, we just breeze by to get the job done, without any closure or follow-up to talk about what went right, what went wrong and what could be improved.
Conger’s steps for effective persuasion
In Conger’s article, he states four essential steps for effective persuasion: 1.) Establish credibility 2.) Frame for common ground 3.) Provide evidence and 4.) Connect emotionally With establishing credibility, Conger states, “If expertise and relationships determine credibility, it is crucial that you undertake an honest assessment of where you stand on both criteria before beginning to persuade” (Conger, 1998). In framing for common ground, Conger states, “Effective persuaders know it is impossible to engage people and gain commitment to ideas or plans without highlighting the advantages to all the parties involved” (Conger, 1998). In providing evidence, Conger states, “Effective persuaders supplement numerical data with examples, stories, metaphors, and analogies to make their positions come alive, which paints a vivid picture and in doing so, lends a completing and tangible quality to the persuader’s point of view” (Conger, 1998). And finally in connecting emotionally, Conger states, “Effective persuaders have a strong and accurate sense of their audience’s emotional state, and they adjust the tone of their arguments accordingly” (Conger, 1998).
From these essential steps, I feel that I am more aware on how better prepare my upcoming persuasion presentation. By utilizing each step effectively, I will be able to give a captivating presentation.

He has guided so many successful athletes during his coaching career 61 of them going to the NBA and 17of them still playing for the NBA today. As a producer of high priced luxury goods Coach stands to suffer from the state of the economy as conspicuous consumption is frowned upon and consumer frugality is in fashion. ...that gets everyone familiar with one another and to see how life on the road is with midget hockey. Traveling as a team is a new experience for some of the new players and it helps them mature and take care of themselves while away from their parents. We went down there and split with the U18s and beat a top ranked U16 squad. In all aspects it was a great start to the season. From there we played the U16 AAA Blues, a power house team with several promising prospects. We came out and won the game 4-0 and I think this was the moment when we caught a lot of eyes and attention. Next was our trip Detroit for the Compuware/ Honeybaked AAA Tournament. This was a trip I was looking forward to for months. The reason why? We travelled in style with the Peoria Rivermen sleeper bus. Every bus trip from that point on could not compare to the luxury we encountered. It’s not every day you can drive home from Michigan and watch the Rams game followed by the Cardinals baseball game followed by a nice Sunday nap. Oh yea, we also played some hockey games. We went 3-1 in a AAA tournament. We beat a top 20 ranked AAA team and lost to powerhouse Honeybaked 4-1. The games were played in two halves and we lost the first half 4-0 to Honeybaked then came out and won the second half 1-0. I think if we were not star struck in the first half we might have seen a closer outcome. But in all, it was a great trip and to go 3-1 in a Tier I tournament as a Tier II team is an accomplishment......
