Cadet Corps
The organization that I will be using is the Bill E. Young, Jr. Middle School Cadet Corps. This organization goes in the improving American society by motivating kids from grade 6-8th that is having difficulty with academics. This program not only helps improve their academics but it also improves their ability with socializing by communicating with their classmates by starting off with the kids in the program. The Cadets learn four attributes while in the cadet corps which is Loyalty, Integrity, Duty, and Selfless- Service. The Cadet Corps makes them ready for high school and keeps them on track afterwards. These Cadets are motivated through discipline, military courtesy, and drill and ceremony. This is the only middle school to have a cadet core in the valley which has some discipline as the army by having not only a principle/teacher from the army but a friend they can relate to. The person I’m talking about is Joe Derma who to the Cadet Corps is the “Cadet Commandant”.
The Cadet Corps was established in 2004 at the Bill E. Young, Jr. Middle School in Calipatira and has been going on since then. The Cadets meet at the last period of class in their school time which consists of 7 periods. There are currently 30 cadets in the program. During the year they will have extra help in learning the U.S. Constitution, Current affairs, Economics, and Physical Education. At the end of the year all 8th graders are required to pass the test for their knowledge in the U.S Constitution to graduate to high school. The Cadet Corps helps them understand the information they received by their history teacher. They discuss the current news and talk about how they feel on the subject and why things are the way they are. The Economics they learn would be about the production and consumption of goods and the transfer of wealth to produce and obtain those goods. The study…...

...For my community service I went to a church who donated to a charitable organization and I worked in the youth’s section. This was a great experience for me because I got to work with youth’s who were interested to learn. At the church we did different activities with each other, this was very interesting. We did different activities together which built a relationship as we bond and play. Helping in a youth group was exciting because I got to work and talk with people my age. I was able to help the younger children with their homework and I typed out documents. The attitude of the community was very positive. They followed the right pathway of God and represented the church well. I must say very proudly, that I didn’t occur in any problems during the different activities. The only problem I struggled with was dealing with the different attitudes presented before me. In a way this helped me a lot because it showed me how different people were in different ways. I did understand the different personalities and attitudes because everyone came from different family backgrounds. There interest with the people was well done; they made them feel welcomed and helped with any need they had. From this experience I did grow in many different ways, it allowed me to developed more conversations and help a lot of people out during their hard times. It also showed me that you can learn a lot of things from other people. This experience made a huge impact on my life, which can carry me......

...If given a chance, what would you do? As a person that are healthy, younger and live in a good life, and have a chances to help the community around that was a great opportunity to us in order to help others people that are unlucky to have a good live like us. Here have a few ideas that we would like to do if we have chances to do that. First is distributing food for homeless in Chow Kit area. We like to have collaboration with Yayasan Salam in order to give food for homeless at Chow Kit area. By doing this we can share a little bit of what we eat every day as a lucky person and also we as a student we can see how hard they have to face a challenging life that we know they did not want to live like that. Second is give motivation and develop skill among them. The foundation that we want to go is Sinar Salam foundation at Chow Kit. Here we would like to give some motivation to them and also want to share some skill that we have like cooking, sewing, craft or something that they can use after they get out of this foundation. Third is help out families at your local hospital. Offer to colourful baby blankets to donate to the maternity hospital. This is meant to celebrate the birth of the baby for parents especially to the newly married couples. Fourth is visit and help at old folks home. The main thing that we like to do this activity is we want to give some happiness to them and in the same time we want to help the staff there to handle everything about taking......

...Rebekah Andreasen Community Service I did my community service at East Texas Dream Center and the YMCA. Community service was a blast, as usual! Every time I do community service it makes me smile because I know I’m giving back to the community and I’m helping others. East Texas Dream Center is a woman’s center for the homeless or those who need rehabilitation. It’s honestly an amazing place to volunteer and do community service hours. While at East Texas Dream Center I helped watch the children while bible study and classes were going on. These children hugely impacted my life! They made me think back to the struggles I went through as a child. Seeing these children smile and laugh no matter what happened made me realize that I should never let anything bring me down because there’s always many reasons to smile. I chose this place because these ladies and there children need help, and being apart of those changing the lives of others is one of the greatest feelings in the world. The other place I took care of some hours was the YMCA with my JROTC group. There we painted the barn and made it look awesome! A new painted barn is always a great thing. I volunteered to do community service here because I know how many kids like to go and take ridding lessons or go to look at the horses and giving those kids something new is a blessing. Giving back to the community and center that has given me so much as a child. While volunteering here I learned that hard work...

...Some people think that 18 year-olds should perform one year of community service before they pursue college or a paying job. I disagree with this choice and find it more hurtful than helping in the majority. The time spent away to help is a very great experience, but the sacrifice needed is very costly for the person. Money is a substantial reason to stay for school and or a job. The Money that it may take for a person to do these special services and even just to sacrifice an income for a year could devastate how future incomes may be. The job that a person may get after serving community or national services could hender someone just starting as apposed to being there for a year climbing the ladder. The competitive struggle for jobs creates a dire need to start as quickly as possible for a better chance to succeed The education learned in high school normally sets a person up for a college life. If taken time away from directly going to college crutial information and habits may be forgotten. Many study habits are very quickly forgotten to some and to get that back can prove a difficult task. The lessons learned through your early life are just a easily forgotten if not used in a period of time. The chance of a return to a higher source of education has proved to be a small one. Statistics often show that even one year away from education causes a substancial increase in also not returning to a higher learning. Many often grow a habit away from......

...Reflection Paper Nowadays, I am very happy and proud of our society when it is being changed in a positive way to bring out the best things for our lives. Sharing and helping each other in work is the most specific ways to show the society how people unite. It does not only make our work more effective, but also we have more opportunities to express emotion and care for each other. From the time when I was still in high school, I had many opportunities to participate in charitable activities, especially volunteer work. I, along with my friends, established an association which was called “The Lucky Grass Flower”. This was the place that we used to shelter the disadvantaged children and orphan in our city. We received so much support and help from the school and other media communications. This helped us a lot in completing our care for the children. In addition, the most important thing was that all the things we did came from our hearts, and this was our motivation for this activity. That was the first volunteer work that I participated in, and it was also the most significant voluntary work that I have ever taken part in. Also in my country, Vietnam, the Communist Youth League is running a very large and meaningful volunteer program for undergraduate students every summer, and it is named "The Green Summer Volunteer Campaign". This volunteer program is very useful for all young people. In participating in this program, the volunteers will be involved with the diversity and...

Community Service

...Community service is performed by someone or a group of people for the benefit of the public or its institutions. Performing community service is not the same as volunteering, since it is not always done voluntarily. It may be done for a variety of reasons: governments may require it as a part of citizenship requirements, typically in lieu of military service; courts may demand it in lieu of, or in addition to, other criminal justice sanctions – when performed for this reason it can also be known as community payback; schools may mandate it to meet the requirements of a class, such as in the case of service-learning or to meet the requirements of graduation. High school graduation and community work Many educational jurisdictions in the United States need students to do community service hours to graduate from high school. In some high schools in Washington State, for example, students must finish 200 hours of community service to get a diploma. Some of the Washington school districts, including Seattle Public Schools, differentiate between community service and "service learning," requiring students to demonstrate that their work has contributed to their education. If a student in high school is taking an AVID course, community service is needed. Other high schools don't require community service hours for graduation, but still see an impressive number of students get involved in their community. For example, in Palo Alto, CA, students at Palo Alto High School log......

...Kyle Zickefoose Antonette Navarro Community Service 305 Dec. 4, 2014 Final Integration Paper Over the course of this semester I have learned so much in this Community Service 305 class. In this paper I will discuss my new understanding of active citizenship, community engagement, and social responsibility. I will also share some of my personal accounts during my time doing community service, how this has been much more than a one-way relationship, and some of the social issues facing the mental health population. The last thing I will be discussing is how this experience has transformed who I am as a person and how I will integrate what I have learned into my personal life. Before I started this class, I was not looking really looking forward to it. I always assumed that community service was done by retired people or celebrities looking for good publicity, but I was definitely wrong. This class has changed the way I look at community service and I now see it as a crucial part of any thriving community. Multiple videos were shown to us in class about single individuals starting large movements by cutting there own path and not being afraid of deviating from the rest of the crowd. The one video that I remember vividly was one of young boy trying to move a huge log that had fallen in the middle of the road and was blocking traffic. The boy had no chance of moving the log by himself, but he never gave up and eventually people began to start pushing the log with......

...901-496-2467 Mmoore17@comast.net “Community Service” Community service is when someone performs a duty that benefits his or her community. Community service is sometimes associated with punishment. However, community service is a vital part of many small communities. Numerous organizations around the world support community services activities. These services is performed by volunteers who are not paid for their time. From past experiences, community service may be done for a variety of reasons; to meet the requirements of a class, high community work and a religious reason for serving. First, I serve to meet requirements of a class. While in middle school at Kirby Middle School. I volunteered with a group called Kirby Kings. This group was made up of a group of young men that were taught the traits of becoming intelligent men. At least one Saturday out of the month, we had to volunteer by helping others to clean the streets of Memphis, TN. Doing this time, we picked up trash and clean up parks. The experience was alarming. This really made me want to change my ways by not throwing trash on the ground but into a trash bin. I did not enjoy the movement of cleaning after others. But I am more pleased to say I pick up behind myself and others. This experience has taught me to be responsible for my actions and to take encourage others to do the same. Next, another reason for community service is high school community work. As a current student at East......

...Community Service Some people are accepting that community service should be required to high school programs. Students and their guardians are considering their concerns about the consequences and also anticipating what will be advantages of making it compulsory. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of making unpaid community service compulsory to high school’s student? First of all, the benefit of doing community services is that students will experience many different new things and also get knowledge from the varieties of experiences. In addition, they will become mature and their mentality will change to the outlook on world. Take, for example, if they go poor places, they will feel sympathetic to them, so, they will understand about life, learn lessons and realize that they should not be greedy with their wants. Students will get an opportunity to help people and do good deeds. Moreover, doing community services will help a lot when they apply jobs or university in different areas since this will be a first impression to people. Lastly, this will positively impact on school reputation. In contrast, there are disadvantages such as students who cannot cope with their school works will find difficulties to their academic because they have to put their free times on doing community services. Student’s leisure time will be reduced, hence, they won’t have time to do their hobbies and feel unsatisfied with this. Furthermore, they will be physically tired and they......

... RESTORING PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND CITY DEMOCRACY Institution Affiliation Course Date The active participation of the community is the most important part of conserving, reestablishing and constructing both the physical infrastructure and the democracy of cities. From my point of view, Will Rogers principles about physically fit cities and on how we should shape our cities, the vision of growing a city honors equality and diversity. Recycling brownfields abandoned and underutilized property to create parks for the communities is one principle of community-based land conservation. Furthermore, great cities have great parks. These parks are the gathering places for cultural events, farmers’ markets, recreation and also brings communities together. Providing wonderful park system is just as much an ethical issue as providing quality education and mobility for all citizens. I came to agreement on this issue of recycling land to get a fairer balance. In principle two, individual health is directly tied to how we shape our cities and communities. I can as a result of this say, to avoid ‘chronic diseases’ we should construct better patterns for our new developments in the urban, which will create sidewalks and bike paths. It is true to say that our growth patterns are affecting the water quality, the water that we consume to our bodies, becoming a major threat to our health. The squeezed patterns lead to traffics which of course, pollutes our air from the car emissions. It......

Community Service

...Community service should be required in order to graduate high school. Community service helps an application look professional when an employer sees the work experience that a student has. To begin, Donna St. George, journalist for The Washington Post states “Many people were more likely to work in professional and business management due to volunteering as an adolescent.” This is important because it shows the impact that community service has on the type of work an individual continues with, which helps with getting and keeping a job. Also, the article “Even When It’s Mandatory, Volunteering Is Good For Kids” states, volunteering is good for many students because it gives them work experience, and it is good for their future careers, and community service helps inspire them to find an interest he or she likes. To end, Alina Tugend a journalist for The New York Times states, “Students who volunteered were more likely to contribute the community and to vote when they came of age”. This is important because it is showing the relationship between those who volunteered and those who didn’t. Those who volunteered were much more likely to engage with the community and continue to help. Therefore, community service is good for students because it helps with finding a place of work and feeling good about it. Secondly, community service allows students to use skills they learn in the classroom beyond the classroom, such as responsibility, organization, or problem-solving. Kelly......

...are “informationally efficient”. That is, no one can consistently achieve returns in excess of average market returns by using any information that market already knows. That means when the investment is made, the information is publicly available. One important characteristic of the efficient market is we assume the prices of securities are fully reflective of all publicly known information about the security at all time. For Philip Service Corp. case, the head of this public company tried to artificially inflate its stock price by falsely overstating the amounts of Philip’s goodwill and inventory. The information which affected the price was the inventory and goodwill being overstated. Did this information belong to the publicly known information? The answer is no. This information was not publicly information. Then when did these problems present to the public? It was in year 1998. So we can assume this information did not present in Philip’s financial statements of year 1995 and 1996 and the first nine months of year 1997. Philip Service deliberately concealed certain information. The missing inventory, writeoffs of restructuring costs and goodwill writedowns were inside information until 1998. Market prices were certainly wrong in absence of these inside information. However, the market efficiency still applied as once the news and accurate information were publicly available, the market price quickly reflected and adjusted. b. The way in which a firm accounts for......
