How Personal Can Ethics Get?
BUS 520
January 25, 2010

An employee’s individual differences and preferences can be of significant impact to the entire organization. People come from different places, backgrounds, cultures and religions. Each person’s knowledge and ability to understand principles and distinguish right from wrong are different. Therefore, it can create serious ethical issues in organizations because those personal characteristics influence people in their making of daily life decisions. However, the organization must abide by the law and order rules that are the standards of determining ethical behavior in the organization around the globe. People develop stages of moral behavior throughout their lives, and most are aware of their degree of Ethical Intensity. These people know how harm or benefits will be influenced by their decisions or behavior. Some of the unethical behaviors are legal. Many people are capable of manipulating things in the organization to suit their preferences. They do not always have a feeling of integrity, responsibilities, or compassion to others. Some of them, in positions of power, use their power without respect to others, and do not follow the professional standards principles; for example, giving a favor to a client in exchange for a bribe. If everyone in a company, including those in high level positions, behave according to their personal preferences and concern themselves only with their own self, then the organization will be facing a dilemma. These persons will create so many issues and conflicts in the work place that it may cause the company not to grow. The employees will not respect their bosses and their colleagues due to the lack of a good role model and lack of negative consequences for what they have been done. Moreover, it will affect overall productivity and creativity. Also,…...

...Assignment1: Finding the Leader in You: Self Assessment/Johari Window Business 520: Leadership and Organizational Professor: Dr. Anthony Muscia Date: January 27, 2014 A self-assessment is one of the most difficult things for a person to complete. When doing a self-assessment one has to look at all the factors in their life which may sometimes be good and other times bad. Whether due to the difficulty of honestly analyzing ones own actions or just a reluctance to acknowledge past letdowns; self-assessments can be a very hard task. A person still can try their best to be open and honest, but all people have habits or certain things they do that they are not always aware of. Dr. Terry Armstrong states, “we might not be aware of everything there is to know about ourselves, but good communication is always the beginning” (2006). Develop a profile of your personality characteristics and assessment results. When developing my personality traits and characteristics profile I found that I am a strong decision maker who isn’t afraid of confrontation. I am very social and loyalty means a great deal to me. I am clearly an extravert, but I do have a few introverted ways. I like to be around friends and build lasting relationships, but I am not always the first person to begin conversation or step totally “outside of my box” in situations. This premise continues as I look deeper into my personality. I am a very cooperative person, but their have......

...Teamwork & Motivation BUS 520 Date: August 5, 2014 Imagine that you are the owner of a small manufacturing company. Your company manufactures a commodity, widgets. Your widget is a clone of a nationally known widget. Your company’s widget, WooWoo, is less expensive and more readily available than the nationally known brand. Presently, the sales are high; however, there are many defects, which increase your costs and delays delivery. Your company has fifty (50) employees in the following departments: sales, assembly, technology, and administration. The motivation of the team lays heavily on the leadership of the company. Managers must learn how to motivate the team in an effective manner to reach a common goal. In this case, making sure that the widgets are being produced with little to no defects, and being sent out in a timely manner while keeping costs down. The objective is to design an organization motivation plan that will encourage the team to work and achieve this goal. Highly motivated individuals can make a huge difference to the overall attitude of a team and the production. The first step in developing a motivated team is being able to understand what a team really is. According to Organizational Behavior, “A team is a group of people holding themselves collectively accountable for using complementary skills to achieve a common purpose.” (Schermerhorn, Jr., Osborn, Uhl-Bien, & Hunt, 2012) Team......

With over 90 years of experience BMW has driven its way to the top of the auto industry and is best known for its performance and luxury vehicles. BMW is the ultimate driving machine. While BMW celebrates its successes, the company remains humble and recognizes that things can go wrong. In 1959 the company nearly went bankrupt after it badly misjudged the market trends of the era. The company would not be here today if it did not receive a bailout from a wealthy German family and the continued support of their workforce. This served as a pivotal point in BMW’s history that would drive the company’s performance. As a part of the on-boarding orientation training BMW makes a point to share the story of 1959 with each new plant associate. From day one BMW employees understand the vision, mission, and goals of the company; this in turn creates a sense of placement for the employee within the company. Employees are not only armed with the training and knowledge they will need to be successful at BMW but know how they have and continue to impact the company. The Culture & Leadership BMW has created a workplace that embraces an entrepreneurial culture.
